Tusket is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.
She is also owned by my dog training instructors and is a rescue. When my dog training instructors first got her she
was scared, but was a very sweet dog. She had to be near them all the time. She also had severe skin issues.
She's always great to work in agility! She's
a very happy dog and people at agility trials are always attracted to her! She is very gentle and has a high drive for
treats.
Tusket has problems to work out with the weaves. She is not a very driven
dog, and always tries to look at me while weaving. I have not been able to cure this, so now I am trying to work around
it. I have instead taken a slow, but effective approach. I have been teaching her to weave away, and when she
comes back towards me, she gets a treat every time. Her weaves are slow, but they are improving!
Tusket also has a problem with having to be constantly near me. If I try
to move away, she'll come towards me and miss obstacles. If I try to send her out, she'll refuse. If I try to
cross behind, she will turn around and look for me. I wouldn't describe Tusket to be lacking confidence or nervous,
but she definitely thrives when she can see me.
